Safety Tips to Keep Cozy this Winter

Fire up that fireplace

Inspect your chimney for cracks or obstructions.

You can always add more paper, don’t make the mistake of adding too much at first.

Never burn charcoal in your fireplace… Carbon monoxide!!

Hot ashes= open damper. Closing your damper could enable hot ashes to heat up to cause an unwanted fire.

Turn on that furnace

Inspect! Check condition of automatic controls and emergency shutoffs.

Walls and ceiling around your furnace feel cold? Add insulation or additional clearance space.

Keep trash and combustibles away!

Seal unused flue openings with solid masonry.

Get that space heater out of storage

Inspect! Does it have a working safety light, alarm, automatic shut- off switch, and a cut- off device to prevent overheating?

Keep objects, people and pets at least three feet away.

Water and electric don’t mix, keep it out of your bathroom!

Do not use extension cords, plug directly into an outlet.

*Remember to change the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors*
